Residents for Effective Shelter Transition (R.E.S.T.)
R.E.S.T. is a non-profit organization that serves the homeless of Uptown Chicago. The mission of R.E.S.T. is to provide shelter, counseling and job referrals for the needy. The goal is to help the clients leave homelessness behind permanently. St. James volunteers participate in this ministry by picking up bread and soup from local bakeries and restaurants on Saturday afternoons and delivering these foods to the church parking lot. Other volunteers pick up the food and bag lunches, deliver these to two designated Uptown shelters. They also stay and serve a meal at one of the R.E.S.T. shelters to the homeless clients.
