PADS – (Public Assistance to Deliver Shelter)
Through the generosity of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd (LCGS), St James PADS was able to continue serving those experiencing homelessness during the Saint James Church renovation. The many devoted St. James volunteers took their commitment on the road while using the LCGS space and worked the entire program remotely including providing three meals and covering all shifts. During the polar vortex and the most extreme cold, St. James volunteers were ensuring care and safety for the guests. The group of volunteers from SJ School that had signed up to bring sandwiches that night had to Uber over to make the lunch delivery due to car trouble! How lucky we are to live among those that take the care of all so seriously.
St. James PADS has been serving the community for 29 years and is 100% volunteer run. We are in need of monthly shift volunteers, food team workers, clean up and set up. Set up on Wednesday evenings from 5pm-6pm is a wonderful opportunity for all including families and teens. All volunteers over the age of 18 must be Virtus trained. Shift worker volunteers should attend a brief training offered through Journeys the Road Home. For more information go to journeystheroadhome.org.
We look forward to the new inclusive Church!
The PADS Emergency Shelter Program provides hospitality, food and overnight emergency shelter to the homeless. The Winter season of PADS runs between October 1 and April 30. The sites are staffed entirely by volunteers who prepare, supervise and clean sleeping accommodations as well as prepare and serve dinner, breakfast and a sack lunch. Click here for other PADS sites
