“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord”- Ephesians 5:19

“Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.”-Psalm 95:1

Our weekend Eucharistic celebrations are the summit and source of who we are as Catholics. The Eucharist is the culmination of our past week, our sustenance and nourishment for the next. Through it, we are formed as to how to live each day of our lives. Wonderful musical prayer at these liturgies is an integral component, and thus we place high importance on developing a music ministry that is rich with quality, leadership, enthusiasm and participation. All are welcome!

Our Music Ministry has a strong community of singers whose devotion shines through in our sung liturgy. With the exception of the Children’s Choir, our ensembles meet weekly on Thursday evenings. Through their membership, choir members gain a terrific sense of community and involvement. Membership in our choirs is open to all interested singers after a simple voice check.

Teen Ensemble – Sunday Evening 5:00 pm Church

The Teen Ensemble includes teens in grades 6 – 12, and alumni college through young adult.  Rehearsals are on Sundays at 4:00 PM and Mass is celebrated weekly on Sundays at 5:00 PM.  This is a dynamic group of musicians who enjoys creativity with music ministry as well as new opportunities!  They have learned popular songs, traditional hymns, and created upbeat versions of older hymns. Musicians have been able to participate year round and musically experience the seasons of the church year. They prepare a variety of music for weekly Masses, and are invited to participate in Religious Education Masses, Advent, Christmas, Lent, Palm Sunday, Confirmation, and St. James Graduation.

Student leadership opportunities are available through participating in rehearsals and Masses, organizing weekly binders, filing music, and setting up chairs and microphones for the group.

Participants are able to receive service hours through Music Ministry!

We are blessed with talented singers, instrumentalists, composers and arrangers who have emerged from the Teen Ensemble! Their gift of music is a blessing to our Parish Community and has been the inspiration to grow three groups: Middle School Ensemble – Grades 6-8; Teen Ensemble – Grades 9-12; Contemporary Ensemble – College through young adult.

Children’s Choir

Second through fifth grade students who attend St. James Church are welcome to join our Children’s Choir. The choir sings twice a month at a weekend mass during the school year. The children also perform in the “Angels and Shepherds” Christmas Mass on Christmas Eve, and in a Spring concert. The children’s choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:00 pm during the school year. Children have a lot of fun singing and playing musical games at rehearsals. Many make new friends who attend a different school from their own.

For registration and further information, please contact choir director, Natalie Conseur. You can send her an email at Natalie Conseur email or call the parish office 224-345-7200, and leave a message at extension 8502.
