Give up to three people a new chance at life by donating blood at St. James Spring Blood Drive located in the School Cafeteria. This Drive will be conducted by Vitalant Blood Services (formally LifeSource). You can be a volunteer donor as long as you are at least 18 years old (16 with a written parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in good health. If you want more detailed information on donating or to make an appointments, you can call our Vitalant Representative at 877-258-4825. Walk-ins are always welcome.
Today, Grace Bertram is a lovely and thriving little 2-year-old. She loves to climb, read, laugh and keep up with her older brothers. During her mother’s pregnancy with Grace, she was diagnosed with isoimmunization. This is a condition that happens when a pregnant woman’s blood protein is incompatible with the baby’s, causing her immune system to react and destroy the baby’s blood cells. The treatment for this condition is specialized monitoring of the baby in-utero with possible blood transfusions and/or delivering the baby early. Grace received special monitoring including weekly scans of her brain during her 9 months in-utero. Unfortunately, Grace did require 4 separate lifesaving emergency intrauterine blood transfusions during her mother’s pregnancy. By the grace of God, she survived, and we are forever grateful for the generous gift of life the caring blood donors gave our daughter.
Please give someone else the chance of life by donating blood Sunday, March 1st, at St James. If you can’t donate on that day, we hope you can find time to donate at a local Vitalant donation center.
With Heartfelt Thanks,
The Bertram Family
