For over 30 years, St. James has reached out to the homeless in Chicago’s Uptown Neighborhood. The LOAVES & FISHES Ministry will continue to provide a Saturday evening meal of soup & bread and a brown bag lunch for up to 60 men and 40 women.

LOAVES & FISHES continues its need for volunteers for any of the following:

Pick up bread and soup from local bakeries and restaurants on Saturday afternoons.

Make 100 lunches – (great opportunity for scouts, families, confirmation/high school service hours, etc.)

Transport the donations to the shelters late Saturday afternoon or early evening.

Deliveries are made to a shelter for Woman at Lawrence and Sheridan Road operated by Sarah’s Circle and to a shelter for Men operated by NorthSide Housing just a block away on Lawrence. The shelters serve 40 women and 60 men.

Our ministry operates each Saturday beginning in November and runs through April.

To streamline the sign up process this year, we are using “Sign Up Genius” online. If interested please email Kevin and Geralyn Walsh at The Sign Up link will be sent to you to select a date and activity. Additional instructions will be provided.
