Honoring Our Legacy, Securing Our Future

St. James Parish has been a cornerstone of faith and community in Arlington Heights since 1902, growing into a vibrant home for worship, education, and service. As our parish continues to flourish it’s time to secure our future while honoring our legacy. Our capital campaign, Vibrant Generations, is an exciting opportunity to reimagine our spaces, upgrade essential infrastructure, and ensure that St. James remains a beacon of Catholic faith for generations to come. Together, we can create a vibrant and welcoming environment where disciples of Christ are nurtured and sent forth to transform the world.

How You Can Get Involved

We all have a role to play in bringing Vibrant Generations to life for our community.

We invite you to consider how you can help in one or more of the following ways:

Pastor's Message

Thank you for supporting this effort and ensuring a bright future for St. James Parish!

The growth of St. James Parish is not just about numbers but about deepening faith and expanding our mission. With your prayers and participation, the $4 million Vibrant Generations campaign will enable us to sustain our vibrant community, nurture future generations, and continue serving with faith, love, and dedication.

Since 1926, our commitment to education has ensured our young parishioners receive a faith-filled foundation, preparing them to lead in the Church and beyond.

Over the years, we have grown and evolved, remaining steadfast in our mission to be disciples of Christ and make disciples of Christ.

St. James Parish has been a vibrant faith community since 1905 when the church was first constructed.

The Campaign Projects

The Vibrant Generations campaign will focus on three projects to reimagine our spaces, upgrade essential infrastructure, and ensure that St. James remains a beacon of Catholic faith for generations to come.

School Reconfiguration

Reconfiguring St. James School and Parish Spaces
With enrollment growing from 482 in 2018 to 588 in 2024, St. James is reconfiguring school and parish office spaces to enhance safety and better serve students and parishioners.

  • Enhanced Safety: Moving the security desk near the drop-off area, student monitoring during arrival and departure times will be improved, increasing safety during peak times and events like sporting events, Religious Education, EDGE, and Vacation Bible School.
  • Centralized Services: Therapy services like speech and occupational therapy will be relocated to the main building, reducing travel time for students and increasing instructional minutes.
  • Classroom Reorganization: Classrooms will be reorganized to promote a more cohesive, supportive,  and efficient learning environment, optimizing space to support continued growth and improve the student experience.

HVAC Repairs

The HVAC system in our school has exceeded its life expectancy, leading to frequent failures. Classrooms have often been without cooling during the hot Summer and Fall months, and without heat during the coldest Winter days. Additionally, repair costs have been rising year after year.

Upgrading our HVAC system will significantly improve the daily operations of the school, parish offices, cafeteria, and Junior High. The current system, last updated in 2007, will be replaced with new unit ventilators for the junior high, rooftop units for the parish center (school gym) and cafeteria, and a building automation control system. The remaining junior high equipment, which is also nearing the end of its life expectancy, will be replaced as well. The budget for these upgrades is based on a per-ton cost. This project will ensure safety, comfort, and stability throughout our parish.

Archdiocese of Chicago

Generation To Generation: Answer The Call

Vibrant Generations fundraising includes a required component of giving to the Generation to Generation: Answer the Call campaign initiated by the Archdiocese of Chicago. This campaign supports essential initiatives such as:

  1. SPIRITUALLY RENEW OUR PARISHES – We will support parishes as they refocus efforts to reach out to the less engaged and accompany them along the path of Christian discipleship. We will provide intensive parish renewal support, renewal formation, and direct outreach to people exploring faith.
  2. SUPPORT OUR PRIESTS – We will invest in seminarian education, pastoral and professional development, and caring for the health and well-being of active and retired priests.
  3. ASSIST VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES –We will support our schools and parishes in economically challenged areas through Catholic school scholarships and the Parish Vitality Fund, which supports facility maintenance and ministries at parishes serving low-income communities.

Campaign Prayer

Heavenly Father,
We ask your blessing upon the family of St. James as we carry out the Vibrant Generations Capital Campaign.
We offer our gratitude for the faithfulness and generosity of the people of our parish.
Many committed parishioners have come forward to collaborate in this effort, and we ask your blessing upon them and all of our parish leadership.
Give us wisdom and prudence in our decision making, faith and trust in you, and a lively spirit of charity for all of our people.
Help each of us to “use whatever gift we have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10).
We ask the intercession of St. James, our patron, as we live our Christian discipleship.
We ask all of this through Christ, Our Lord.
Amen.

You can use your DAF to make a one-time gift, or to create a recurring monthly or quarterly gift for even more impact. While you cannot fulfill legally binding pledges with a donor-advised fund, you are able to attach a special purpose to your grants.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we embarking on a combined campaign with the Archdiocese of Chicago now?

The Generation to Generation: Answer the Call campaign supports parishes and schools across the Archdiocese of Chicago, with every parish being required to participate. For our parish, planning has been underway for several years, including discussions on reconfiguring the school building, beautifying the church, and establishing an endowment fund. These plans have involved key staff members, including Deacon Hahn, Dr. Mike Kendrick, Tam Conseur, and former Pastor Fr. Foley. The Archdiocese helps ensure these projects are funded, and parishes with extraordinary needs can participate in combined campaigns for additional support.

What is the Generation to Generation: Answer the Call campaign?

The Generation to Generation: Answer the Call campaign is the Archdiocese of Chicago’s capital and endowment campaign to ignite parish renewal, support our seminarians and priests, and assist vulnerable communities through student scholarships and the Parish Vitality Fund.

What is Saint James’ goal for the Generation to Generation: Answer the Call campaign?

The St. James Vibrant Generations Campaign goal is $4 Million. We are confidant we can reach this goal with the generous support of our community.

How much parishioner support is there for the campaign?

In early surveys of the parish community, 54% of interviewees and 46% of interviewees have a positive or very positive view (respectively) of the parish. This is substantially than historically represented at other parishes. Because 100% of interviewees have such a high opinion of the parish this translates into 75% of interviewees willing to consider donating to the campaign. Again, this is higher than other parishes.

Who will be asked to participate St. James’ campaign?

We are asking all parishioners to prayerfully consider contributing to the capital campaign. Understandably, each family is blessed in different ways, therefore we are asking each family to prayerfully consider a gift of equal sacrifice, rather than a gift of equal monetary value.

When will the potential projects begin?

Projects will begin as soon as possible, starting as early as summer 2026.

Will this campaign affect parish offertory?

Offertory is expected to remain constant during the campaign’s five-year pledge period. Donors will be asked to consider a gift above and beyond their offertory giving.

What do stewardship and sacrificial giving mean?

Christian stewardship is a form of worship in which we, as disciples of Jesus Christ, receive God’s gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, and share them lovingly. We return these gifts with loving increase to the Lord. Stewardship is the generous giving of one’s time, talent, and treasure as lay ministers and financial donors. Sacrificial giving means to give out of one’s substance rather than merely the surplus. This amount is different for everyone but includes giving that brings about a positive spiritual change in you and that of your family.

Is this a one-year or multi-year pledge?

You can choose either. While the pledge is typically structured as a 5-year commitment, you’re welcome to fulfill it all at once or spread it out over the full 5 years.
