Who can be a server?

Incoming 4th graders who desire to encounter Christ and grow closer to Him through serving at the altar.

Altar serving is open to incoming 4th grade boys and girls who desire to encounter Christ, grow in faith, and begin discerning God’s call for their lives. Serving at the altar brings young people into the beauty and reverence of the Mass while teaching them to pray, serve, and listen for God’s voice.

Through this experience, boys are invited to prayerfully discern whether God may be calling them to the priesthood, while girls are invited to discern whether He may be calling them to religious life. Every altar server is encouraged to place their life in God’s hands and ask the important question:

“Lord, what are You calling me to?”

Learn to Serve

We are called to serve Christ with joy, giving our time and talents to His Church.

Altar serving is more than learning where to stand or what to carry. Servers receive yearly formation in the liturgy, learning how the Mass works, why we celebrate it, and how their service helps others encounter Christ. Like a sports team, servers are expected to commit to training, practice together, and grow in their responsibilities.

Throughout the year, servers will also be trained to serve at weddings, funerals, and special celebrations such as the Midnight Easter Mass. Through this formation, they grow in faith, discipline, and confidence while discovering the joy of serving Christ and His Church.
