Men of St. James
The Men of St James (MSJ) is an exciting ministry providing opportunities for Christian fellowship and growth to help each other in the journey to be disciples of Christ and make disciples of Christ. We do this through spiritual, service and social activities as well as small group formation for all men of the parish & community at least 21 years of age.

The St. James Retired Men’s group is parish-oriented in principle but ecumenical in spirit and practice. It is founded on four objectives: sociability, support, service and spirituality being the keystone. All retired men, directly or indirectly affiliated with St. James Parish are welcome. Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month throughout the year.

The Holy Rosary Council (#4483) of Arlington Heights serving the parishes of St. James, St. Edna’s, Our Lady of the Wayside, and St. Colette is part of the largest Catholic Lay ministry in the world—the Knights of Columbus. Practicing Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, are invited to join in dedicating themselves to the ideas of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism while serving the needs of parish communities in various ministries and outreach efforts.

A man is forged in the mightiest fire when tempered by trials. Join the journey during this year’s Men’s Welcome Retreat. The weekend beckons you to join a brotherhood of Christ that will build you up as you hear men share their stories of the real-life change that happens with an encounter with Jesus Christ. Wherever you are in your faith or your relationships, this retreat will ignite your spirit and help grow you into the man God has created you to be, alongside men that will accompany you along the way. There is no registration fee for the Men’s Welcome Retreat. Participants will be asked on the second day of the retreat to make a free will donation toward the costs of the retreat.

Troop 166 is a Boy Scout organization chartered by the Northwest Suburban Council and sponsored by the St. James Women’s Club. Boy scouting is open to all boys who have completed 5th grade or who are 11-17 years old and is designed to develop character and provide values-based leadership training for youth in an environment of responsible fun and adventure.
Troop 166 scouts participate in a number of outdoor and indoor activities. They also give back to the parish and community at large by assisting at the parish picnic, working with the Knights of Columbus and by donating time at Frontier Days. Boy Scouts meet every Monday minus the third Monday of each month, from 7:00 – 8:00pm in the O’Brien Room.

The values of a Catholic community are extended perfectly through the Cub Scouts organization. The Cub Scout promise reminds a boy to do his best for God and his country and to help other people. Cub Scouts is open to boys from 1st through 5th grade, at which time they are eligible to become Boy Scouts. “Pack” meetings are usually held once per month during the school year and often involve special activities. “Dens” are small groupings of the “pack” organized by grade level.

Girl Scouts has had a long tradition at St. James school. Starting at kindergarten and continuing through eighth grade, girls are taught to partner their faith and dedication to church while developing lifelong leadership skills. They learn to set goals, overcome challenges, develop self-esteem while actively participating in service work at St. James and within the community.
Annually St. James honors the Girl Scouts at a mass in February. The Girl Scouts at St. James also earn religious emblems honored by the Archdiocese of Chicago. Our leadership team teaches the Scouts to be strong girls with confidence and character.

We are a group of women who enjoy each other’s company, the outdoors, and the game of golf. From May through September, we tee off for 9 holes every Friday morning between 7:52 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. at Arlington Lakes Golf Club in Arlington Heights.
To participate, you need to have a handicap of 45 or less and you will be placed in flights A, B, C, or D, according to your handicap. We are always looking for new full time members as well as substitute players. Come and join us!

The Men’s Golf League builds new friendships and camaraderie among the St. James parish. From mid-April to mid-September, we play 9 holes every Tuesday, with tee times between 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Buffalo Grove golf course.We do not require a minimum handicap, although we do group golfers into flights; A, B, C, D, and E.
If you are available to golf weekly, great, please join us on the course. If you can’t spare a few hours each week, please join us as a substitute golfer. We’re always looking for new golfers.

The green environments of St. James (the flower beds and landscaping around the church and rectory, the courtyard, perimeter of the parking lot, and around the building of the St. James Parish Center) are lovingly cared for by the volunteers of the Garden Club. Many of these natural spaces are used by parishioners looking for a quiet and prayerful atmosphere, by wedding parties seeking an outdoor background for photos, and for informal meetings of various church ministries.
A volunteer can contribute by planting, pruning, weeding and/or watering the garden areas of St. James. You may choose your own garden area to maintain on your own schedule or respond to occasional group requests for help.
Volunteers can be reimbursed for their purchases of plants and or supplies due to the generosity of the St. James Women’s Club and private donations. Donations are greatly appreciated.

St. James Theater is dedicated to providing quality community theatre and we bring a professional quality and expertise to our shows. We pride ourselves on including entire families in our ministry and welcome everyone from age 7 to 90+ to auditions or help in some capacity. We offer a unique opportunity for children, teens, adults, and seniors to all work together toward a common goal.
